The Future of Design: Fashion in the Digital Age

As fashion continues to progress so does the consumer. I believe that the future of design will be tailored more to the individual rather than the eye of the designer. As our smart phones and data analysis tell us more and more about what a consumer wants, needs, and buys, the styles that are mass produced will resonate deeper within these bounds.

What people look at on the web or view and engage with on social media platforms will play a huge part in designers determining what styles and fashion pieces customers truly want to purchase, wear, and own. With this type of fine tuned metrics, design will be unique but also challenging. A designer cannot simply make a thousand of the same shirts without taking into consideration the fact that somewhere else; there are other people that are craving other specific designs. Because no individual is the same, they are not all wanting and viewing same or specifically similar items. This can pose troubles for the designer because currently designers are taught that they are to influence the trend, not the consumer. The consumer should buy what the designer is saying they should buy and wear. But as technology continues to advance, data analysis will as well. We will be able to see exactly what people want and where these people are located.

Designing items to be sold in stores around the world will be as tailor made as being able to geographically create styles for one region. People who live in Kentucky may not favor the same designs as a California girl. So knowing this type of data can greatly benefit the designer to create precise items for their consumer or target audience.

The future of design is still unknown. Trend analysists and executives in the fashion industry are trying to figure out what the future of design will look like in a rapidly advancing digital and technological marketplace. These views and opinions are my own. I believe that because we are moving towards a lifestyle of digital and advanced “big brother” type of measurements of human consumerism, that in the future, designers and the parameters of how they create will have to make a shift as well.

What do you guys believe the future of design will be? Like I said this is completely my own theory, but I would love to hear some of yours! Please let me know how you think fashion will evolve for the future!

Thanks for stopping by, loves! I hope you have an amazing Monday!

~ Nicole
